We're Salty: Lyft Now Gives Austin Musicians Free Rides To Their Gigs

OK, we're not anti-Austin, but here’s another example of San Antonio getting overshadowed once again by the 5-1-2.

On Thursday, Lyft announced they’ll be giving Austin musicians free rides to their gigs.

That's on top of hooking these artists up with free rides to their doctor appointments, which the ride-sharing service has done since August. Oh, and Austin musicians also get affordable health care through the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, so they're definitely taken care of.

Stephen Sternschein, owner of venue Empire Control Room, explained in a press release that he sees the program as solving problems for Austin musicians: "It's expensive and difficult to park downtown, even harder for a working musician lugging gear. Parking tickets, towing, and accidents can (and do) eat up every dollar a local musician just made on stage. We ought to do everything we can to fix this.”

Honestly, that sounds awesome, which is exactly why we want the same for San Antonio. We know a few musicians here who could definitely benefit from something like this.

Your move, Lyft.
