Where To Get Lei'd During Texas Tiki Week

Let's have a tiki?

As we plunge into the August heat, Texas tradition will make sure to help us keep cool. Thanks to Texas Tiki Week many local bars will provide an escape from San Antonio into a tropical paradise. Originally created by the U.S. Bartenders Guild of Austin chapter, Texas Tiki week events in SA are technically unofficial for this go-around. Here's what's up:

For starters, The Brooklynite (516 Brooklyn Ave., 210-444-0707) will keep your summer groovin' with their Tiki VooDoo Bash on Tuesday, August 4. Cocktails will be served from the bar's usual bartenders and special guest Steve Martín from The Rumble Room. Food will be provided by Say.She.Ate. Don't forget, beach and voodoo attired is encouraged!

If you're afraid of getting spooked at The Brooklynite you can always stop by Mezcalería Mixtli (5313 McCullough Ave., 856-630-5142) on Thursday, August 6.  From 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., the bar will host their own Tiki event, Tiki Mixtli. The event will feature three cocktails — each inspired by an Aztec god.

The last day of Texas Tiki Week will be Sunday, August 9. To finish off the week in style, the Concrete Jungle (1628 S. Presa St., 210-373-9907) will host their unofficial Texas Tiki Week Closeout Party.  From 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. the bar will have music from live DJs, grub from Tapa Tapa truck, and open mic sessions.

We understand if you have a busy schedule and can't make any of these events, and so does the Esquire Tavern (155 E. Commerce St., 210-222-2521). During Texas Tiki Week the bar will be serving six drinks from its tiki-themed menu in addition to its regular menu.
