Will Southwest Airlines Dump SeaWorld? [Update]

On Wednesday, animal advocates assembled at the corporate headquarters of Southwest Airlines at Dallas Love Field Airport. In protest of the alliance between Southwest Airlines and SeaWorld, they delivered a box of more than 27,000 signed petitions to a Southwest Air representative.

Marilee McInnis, their senior manager of culture and communications, responded on the Southwest Air blog that they are currently “in listening and education mode with the goal of upholding our commitments as a good corporate citizen.” For now, the partnership will continue.

Here’s the statement from Southwest Airlines:

We have a longstanding relationship with SeaWorld that is based on travel and bringing families together. We are engaged with Sea World related to the recent concerns being raised.   We are in a listening and education mode with the goal of upholding our commitments as a good corporate citizen.  As a responsible member of the community, we support several organizations and events that are devoted to maintaining the natural world.
