Ballet of the Elephants

Posted on Wed, May 7, 2008 at 4:00 AM

Release Date: 2008-05-07

Don’t read much into the name of the event — you won’t find elephants garbed in tutus performing the Nutcracker. But you will be able to participate in a petting zoo of a different kind — an instrumental petting zoo (where children can experiment with orchestral instuments). The San Antonio Symphony and the Youth Orchestra of San Antonio team up to bring the Texas Library Association Bluebonnet-award nominated book Ballet of the Elephants to life. Prior to the concert, the Symphony hosts a slew of hands-on activities, including a musical arts-and-crafts station and conducting demonstrations led by Symphony Resident Conductor Ken-David Masur. Whether you’re young or old, it’ll be a treat — even if there are no elephants on stage. Free with ticket (available at Symphony Box Office or Laurie Auditorium), 1:30pm, May 11, Trinity University Laurie Auditorium, 715 Stadium Drive, (210) 554-1010,

Jennifer Herrera
