Release Date: 2008-08-06

Giant wooden marimbas are the instruments of choice for Rattletree Marimba, who infuse their high-energy dance music with
Zimbabwean chants and intricate percussion ensembles. Songs last 10-30 minutes and audiences churn themselves into a dancing frenzy. The Austin-based group has been featured in Global Rhythm Magazine and on Afropop Worldwide, played over 100 live shows in 2007, and was a featured showcase at this year’s SXSW. $5, 9pm, The Cove, 606 W. Cypress, (210) 227-2683.

Bringing back the old Chicago Blues styles of Bo Diddley and Big Three Trio, The Bob Bass Band — formerly known as Deja Blues — is back on the scene after nearly a year-long break with two new players in the lineup. These old-school blues freaks feed off the energy of their audiences, playing upbeat blues funk with harmonica and sweet guitar licks. $5, 10:30pm, Ruta Maya, 107 E. Martin, (210) 223-6292.
