For nearly 50 years, Sala Kirschner’s struggle for freedom during the Holocaust was kept a secret. After surviving five years of Nazi work camps, she came to America and never spoke of her wartime experiences until 1991, when she revealed a collection of about 350 letters, photographs, postcards, and a diary from her years in the camps to her daughter, Ann Kirschner.
