Peter Case

Posted on Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 4:00 AM

Release Date: 2008-12-10

In 1976, Peter Case released a little-heard, four-song, indie EP with his power-pop trio the Nerves. In 2007, he released a little-heard, indie solo album dedicated to legendary bluesman Sleepy John Estes.

With the exception of a performance cameo with the Plimsouls in the 1983 movie Valley Girl, Case has spent his entire career under the radar, but he seems very comfortable residing there. While his musical focus has shifted dramatically over the years - from the minimalist power-pop of the Nerves to the fiery guitar rock of the Plimsouls to the rustic folk and blues of his solo career, he’s never disowned or abandoned anything. He still moonlights on the road with a reformed Plimsouls, and he celebrated the Nerves’ brief heyday at a 2007 SXSW in-store with former bandmate Jack Lee.

At heart, Case remains the busker who worked San Francsico street corners in the early ’70s, a guy who believes that as long as you’ve got a single voice, an acoustic guitar, and a point of view, you’re fully equipped. His live performances prove the point. $10, 9 p.m., Thursday, December 11, Casbeers at the Church, 1150 South Alamo, 271-7791,
