On Screen at Artpace: Guillermina Zabala

Guillermina Zabala, whose video installation “State of Disunion” at UTSA Satellite Space conveys political theater through powerful, Noh-style choreography `see “Girls on film,” January 7, 2009`, is the latest artist-curator of the Onscreen at Artpace film series. On January 22 she’ll screen Alain Resnais’ Hiroshima Mon Amour (1960), a love story between a French woman (Emmanuelle Riva) and a Japanese man (Eiji Okada) set in post-World War II Hiroshima and written by acclaimed and controversial French author Marguerite Duras. Leonard Maltin hailed it as The Birth of a Nation of the French New Wave, while Jean-Luc Godard characterized the film as “Faulkner plus Stravinsky.” Free. 6:30pm, Thursday, Artpace, 445 N.
