The Latin rock icons are back from a seven-year hiatus with their first studio album in almost 10 years, and it’s a winner. Fusing rock, reggae, ska, punk, and Latin rhythms, Ritmo offers up an eclectic sound.

A re-interpretation of the Argentinian band’s own anthemic “Mal Bicho” recalls the heyday of ’70s funk with horns and wah-wah over a dirty groove, while also infusing some turntable scratching for a modern twist. “El Genio del Dub” is another groovy cut that builds on a similar formula, while “Flores” throws in some funky cowbell.

A remake of “Padre Nuestro” finds a distinct Los Lobos vibe tapping into similar Latin folk influences, while “Nosotros Egoistas” delivers an infectious roots rocker. A horn and organ driven cover of the Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go” brings a Latin flavor to the pop-punk classic. Already platinum in Argentina and Mexico, Ritmo now hits Los Estados Unidos.
