Walter Trout w/The Benny Harp Band & Mike Zito

Posted on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 4:00 AM

Release Date: 2009-03-18

Blues guitarist Walter Trout is the real deal — he was inspired to begin a music career on his 10th birthday after meeting Duke Ellington, and went on to play with John Lee Hooker, Canned Heat, and John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers. When Trout developed a drinking problem that threatened his career, it was none other than Carlos Santana who advised him to clean up his act because he was “wasting God’s gift.”

Hailing from Ocean City, N.J., Trout wields a mean Stratocaster as he channels seminal influences such as Buddy Guy, Mike Bloomfield, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix. He’s been tearing it up with his own band since 1989, and Trout’s latest album, 2008’s The Outsider, has been nominated for “Rock Blues Album of the Year” at the 30th annual Blues Music Awards in Memphis. Trout shreds all over the album, while delivering soulful vocals to match on tunes like “Welcome to the Human Race,” “Child of Another Day,” and “Turn Your Eyes to Heaven.” $10-$15, 7pm Wed, Mar 18, Sam’s Burger Joint, 330 E. Grayson, (210) 223-2830,
