Posted on Wed, Mar 25, 2009 at 4:00 AM

Critic's Pick Release Date: 2009-03-25

The Instituto Cultural de México sits in HemisFair Park, minding its own business, when suddenly SHOOOM, they bust out some absolutely don’t-miss show (to wit: their FotoSeptiembre 2008 lineup). Now they’ve got José Luis Cuevas: Painter, printmaker, draftsman, and critic. Cuevas helped found the Nueva Prescencia movement in the 1960s, which sought to move Mexican art past the shadow of the mighty muralistas and into the contemporary. Witness Cuevas’s work (as well as that of his wife, Beatriz del Carmen Cueva), hear the maestro lecture on March 26, and (eep!) check out a collection of 31 Picasso engravings from the Museo José Luis Cuevas collection in Mexico City. Free, 6pm Thu, Mar 26, 600 HemisFair Park, saculturamexico.org.
