Art opening: Trabajo Rustico: Fantasies in Cement

Posted on Wed, May 19, 2010 at 4:00 AM

Critic's Pick Release Date: 2010-05-19

Not only is it Dance Month, it’s also Historic Preservation Month. To celebrate the age-old tradition of sculpting tree-like structures from cement (known as faux bois or trabajo rústico), a slew of thoughtful organizations (including Alamo Cement and the San Antonio Conservation Society) have united to sponsor an exhibition at the Southwest School of Art & Craft. Through photographs and (very heavy) samples of this curious trend in craftsmanship, guests are offered an in-depth look at SA’s finest Fantasies in Cement. Free, 5:30-7:30pm, Russell Hill Rogers Lecture Hall, Southwest School of Art & Craft, 300 Augusta, swschool.org.
