Stand-Up for Diversity San Antonio Semi-Finals Showcase

Posted on Wed, Jul 28, 2010 at 4:00 AM

Critic's Pick Release Date: 2010-07-28

Representatives from NBC Universal will visit three “major U.S. markets” in an American Idol-esque search for the “most promising stand-up comedians” New York City, San Antonio, and San Francisco have to offer. Doesn’t it give you chills to hear nuestro pueblo chiquito’s name in the same sentence with esas ciudades enormes? If you’ve got a knack for making your friends wet their pants (or the bed) ? get thy hilarious, diversified ass over to Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club (618 NW Loop 410) for an audition (10am-1pm Sunday) that could end with you representing SA on a national level. Unless you’re one of the first 100 people prepared to compete for a “talent holding deal with NBCU,” you’ll have to wait until Monday to see what the bigwigs found so funny in the Alamo City. Not to be confused with the final diversity showcase (which takes place in Los Angeles in December), the Stand-Up for Diversity San Antonio Semi-Finals Showcase will be SA’s window into a nationwide comedy search that will not result in a TV show, but could land you (or maybe your much funnier friend) on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. At least that’s what happened to 2004 winner Ian Edwards, who went on to work with Ashton Kutcher as a cast member of MTV’s Punk’d. Auditions are free, but are only open to the first 100 people prepared to deliver a one-minute stand-up set.
