Label: Warp
Release Date: 2010-08-25
Rated: NONE
Genre: Recording

It’s strange that the many-membered dance-punk band !!! (or chk chk chk if you’re reading this album review to the blind) chose “AM/FM” as their big single. It sounds a little lethargic for a group indebted to the electroclash of the early aughts, but perhaps this could be attributed to the band’s new locale, laid-back Berlin. The track is as icy and distant as a Teutonic stare, and as unoriginal as apple pie. Thankfully, the temperature starts rising almost immediately, with the psychedelic, disco-beat-driven “The Most Certain Sure,” and each subsequent track enhances the sexy funk influence that always separated !!! from every other Brooklyn white-boy ecstasy-and-guitars band. Like their previous three albums, Strange Weather will likely become a record-crate staple for neon-draped DJs: Just request “Wannagain Wannagain,” or “Janie, My Intentions are Bass,” instead of giving the dance floor freezer burn with “AM/FM.”
