In October, part of the on-going effort to protect our brothers and sisters is to bring awareness of all types of gay issues. One of the most crucial problems facing gay communities of color is a commitment to safe sex practices. The National Latino AIDS Awareness Day was created in 2003, as a mobilizing vehicle to bring awareness, education and to help stem the tide of HIV/AIDS in Latino communities.

The San Antonio National Latino AIDS Awareness Day Committee* have pledged to do some of the work required to educate our community on the importance of bringing awareness of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and its prevention. By getting tested and knowing your status, you can teach others to continue practicing the safest sex possible: the kind with a condom!

There will be a Health Fair at San Pedro Park (in front of pool house) on Saturday, October 16 from 10am – 2pm. There will be appearances by local public officials and other guest speakers, informational booths, door prizes, free refreshments, music, health screenings and free HIV rapid antibody testing.

*The San Antonio National Latino AIDS Awareness Day Committee includes participants from the B.E.A.T. AIDS, Bexar County Ryan White Program, Centro Med Santa Rosa Clinic, Center for Health Care Services, Hope Action Care, Mujeres Unidas Contra el SIDA, Patrician Movement, San Antonio AIDS Foundation, San Antonio Cares, San Antonio Gender Association, San Antonio Area HIV Health Services Planning Council, San Antonio Metro Health Department, The Patrician Movement, UHS- Family Planning, UHS-FFACTS Clinic, UNST, UTHSCSA South Texas Family AIDS Network, FATE and CSTP.
