Ferg_e - A Mom On A Mission

Hey there. My name is Ferg_e and I am a mom on a mission. My mission is to make this world a better place for my son Bradyn to grow up in. In this segment for the San Antonio Current I will blog twice per month about local and national initiatives aimed at making the world a better place for all of us. If you want to see more of me, hop on over to my blog where I write about social causes, epilepsy awareness and our personal journey from chaos to calm in the middle of epilepsy, divorce and life.

One of the things that I love most about living in San Antonio is the way we as a community take care of our service men and women.

It’s that time of year again! Time to share the Holiday Spirit, time to open our hearts and our homes and our families to an airman that is far from their home, it’s time for OPERATION HOMECOOKING!

For the 35th year, Operation Homecooking allows San Antonio-area families the opportunity to share their Thanksgiving Day with basic trainees and servicemembers stationed at LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFNS).

Last year, more than 3,662 servicemembers were invited to share in a Thanksgiving Day feast, and approximately 3,500 are eligible again this year. If you have never participated in this great Air Force holiday tradition, I encourage you to think about doing so this year. Many of these servicemembers are away from home for the first time and I can’t think of a better way to honor their sacrifice than to invite them into our homes and tell them “THANK YOU” in person.

Families can invite two trainees by calling (210) 671-5453, (210) 671-5454 or (210) 671-3701 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information visit the Operation Homecooking Web site.  http://www.lackland.af.mil/homecook.

Check back after Thanksgiving, I will post pictures of our feast and talk about our day with our servicemember guests.

OH and November is Epilepsy Awareness Month if you want to learn more check out my blog You Can Call Me Ferg_e. I will be posting Epilepsy related news all month long.
