Critic's Pick Release Date: 2011-01-19

With all due respect to Ozzy Osbourne, his opening act is my musical pick of the week. Yes, Ozzy is hot (“Let Me Hear You Scream” is up for a Best Hard Rock Performance Grammy in February), but Slash is hotter. In 2009, the former guitarist for Guns N’ Roses, Slash’s Snakepit, and Velvet Revolver wrote the score for his first film, the experimental This is not a movie (directed by Mexican director Olallo Rubio). Last year, he released the in-your-face Slash, his star-studded, first real solo album. And he has a respect for San Antonio. “I’m not just saying `this` because you’re on the phone,” he told the Current last week, “but if anybody had asked me about great rock ’n’ roll cities in the U.S., I would’ve talked about a few of them, and San Antonio is one. I’ve been to SA more than a dozen times, and it’s a great all-around rock ’n’ roll town. It’s as simple as that.” This visit, he comes with Myles Kennedy on vocals, Bobby Schneck on second guitar, Todd Kerns on bass, and Brent Fitz on drums. $25-150, 7:30pm, Mon, Jan 24, AT&T Center, One AT&T Center, (800) 745-3000,
