Nicolette Good’s five-track debut EP is a solid, condensed glimpse of what Current readers saw in her when they named her Best Singer-Songwriter in the 2010 Rammys. She starts off with her folksy side, doing harmonies with herself in the down-tempo “Son of My Sister,” which ends when it was about to take off, as is the case with the short but dynamite “All My Crying.” The latter includes a stirring Mitch Connell guitar solo, and the song is Good at her Americana fiercest. Not to be outdone, Joe Reyes shreds his guitar in “Ramona,” the longest song in the set at just three-and-a-half minutes. Good’s voice is flawless throughout the album (which has an all-pervading harmonica and slide guitar vibe to it), but these jewels of song could have gone on much longer without anyone getting tired. The whole thing is a little over 14 minutes, leaving the listener pining for more. It’s a good thing (for us) that Good is here and not in Nashville. Even better, you can replay this mini-EP many times. And you will. Catch her live March 5 at San Antone Café & Concerts (read our event preview and interview).
