Protest outside Obama's swank, record-setting SA fundraiser

Protesters hit the sidewalk outside the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center Tuesday, site of Barack Hussein Obama's multi-million-dollar reportedly record-breaking San Antonio fundraiser. The signs and rants spewed anger over everything from drone strikes to national debt.

The most prominent were voices of the Ron Paul variety, which could be heard blocks away with shouts of Obama the "emperor" and "lord." One such Ron Paul-er, Henry, spoke of Obama's drone strikes.

"We have the world's largest killing force, the largest empire of all time, and we don't have to send all of our troops over there anymore,” he said with sarcasm. “Luckily, we've invested millions and millions of dollars into these drones, and drones are the most awesome thing of all time. You can be in Vegas, and you can drone someone in Yemen. That is awesome! I've played Modern Warfare, I can be a drone pilot!"

He continued: “Emperor Hussein. The King of the Drones. The Crusher of the Constitution.”

Others railed over the national debt. Holding a sign listing the current debt as "$15,887,835,237,861 and rising," Cameron Cooke, an attorney and Tea Party supporter, said Obama's main fault was fiscal. Cooke's suggestion? Cut, cut, cut away.

"I'd cut the Medicaid, the food stamps, the unemployment benefits; I'd cut off most of the regulatory programs with the EPA. The EPA is crushing American businesses right now with too many regulations. ... There's so many different programs that need to be cut."

While many of the Obama supporters in the area were inside the convention center itself, a band of supporters still showed up outside. Megan, holding a sign quoting Obama, was most concerned with women's health. "I'm supporting Obama health care, and I think he's doing a great job so far. He should definitely require everyone to have health care. What is our country without its health?" She added, "I'd just like to say that Obama's doing a great job. Keep up the good work in 2012!" -- Alfred MacDonald, amacdonaldiv@gmail.com
