Mayweather vs. Canelo: The Biggest Fight in History?

The fight of the year is around the corner. Undefeated champions Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Mexico's Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez will face each other at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on September 14. "The best against the best," said Mayweather, someone who doesn't usually give away praise easily.

But he's right: even though I still believe Mayweather will find a way to win (as he has done in his 44 fights, 26 of them by KO), if there is anyone on this planet who could pull an upset it is Canelo ("Cinnamon"), whose explosive 43-0-1 record (with 30 KOs) hides the fact that he is an above average boxer, not just a lethal puncher.

It is easily the fight of the year, and a strong candidate for biggest-selling fight in history (the 2007 Mayweather-Oscar De La Hoya fight has the pay-per-view record, with 2.4 million buys and $136 million in generated revenue).

This is how boxing reacts to the rise of cage fighting: but putting on the best old-school boxing fights when they are supposed to happen.
