OK, amigos, this is it. The second annual Festival People En Español was officially announced Friday at the Convention Center. Saturday and Sunday will be two days filled with free events at the Convention Center and paid concerts at the Alamodome. After one full year of preparation, the festival (unlike last year, when it was put together in only four months and only sold about 15,000 tickets in two days) is felt in the air. This is the moment of truth. Will it do better this time? I think so and I hope so because, personal musical taste aside, I'm always for shows that look and sound good.

After People en Español publisher Monique Manso did her usual marketing routine (she's the best), she passed the mic to Mayor Julián Castro who did his usual cautious bit and then introduced his brother Joaquín, who quickly confirmed he's the fun twin and, in his own words, "the better looking one." He got serious when presenting a Hispanic Scholarship Fund/People En Español award to local student Raúl Rodríguez.

The Congressman then introduced the other recipient, Gisela Ortega.
