Jimmy Kimmel, King of the Trolls: Host Reveals 'Twerk Fail' Hoax

Posted By on Tue, Sep 10, 2013 at 1:07 AM

If you are a person who uses the internet, chances are you watched or are at least aware of the Youtube video "Worst Twerk Fail EVER," which went uber viral last week (9 million views and counting). Well, guess what you guys? We've all been trolled. Hard.

On tonight's episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" the talk show host revealed the whole thing to be a hoax set up by his show. Turns out, they hired a stuntwoman a few months back, filmed the bit and quietly just left the video on Youtube to just do its thing. Fast forward a couple months, skip over a rather riotous reaction from the peanut gallery to Miley Cyrus' VMA twerking antics, add a few million late-to-the-cultural-party people googling "twerking" for the first time and *poof* we've got a viral video on our hands.

We can't help but feel a little silly for how hard we fell for this, but damnit if this wasn't some A+ trolling.

Bonus points for Kimmel's sly calling out of national media outlets for covering this as "news," towards the end of the video. “It’s a good thing there’s nothing happening in Syria right now," he said. Really makes this Onion bit about the whole whole Miley-gate "situation" just that much more upsetting/funny/painful.
