5 Ridiculous Right-Wing ‘War on Christmas’ Remarks

Posted By on Thu, Dec 12, 2013 at 1:56 PM

As Texas conservative groups make national headlines for promoting a new “Merry Christmas” law intended to fight the so-called "War on Christmas", we've rounded up a list of some of the absurd comments from right-wing culture warriors waging a battle against the mythical war:

Screen Shot Via Media Matters for America 1. Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly: War Christmas Is Part of “Secular Progressives” Desire For "Unfettered Abortion" And Gay Marriage “It is clear that there is a war between traditional Americans and secular progressives [ ] In order to remake the U.S. into a progressive nation, the committed left must diminish Judeo-Christian tradition. The left must get religious influence out of the way.” (Media Matters for America)

American Family Association radio host Sandy Rios: This is Exactly What Hitler Did In Nazi Germany “[AFA head Tom] Wildmon accused one pastor, who told USA Today that Christians needed to come to grips with the religious diversity in the US, of wanting Christians to partake in “a dangerous retreat into isolating ourselves from the larger culture.” “This is exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany,” Rios said. She went on to compare the supposed War on Christmas to religious oppression in the Soviet Union and North Korea.” (Right Wing Watch)

Rick Perry: I’ll End President Obama’s ‘War on Religion’ “You don’t need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school.” (Presidential Campaign Ad)

American Family Association radio host Bryan Fischer: 'Our Commander In Chief Is Waging A War On Christ' “Our Commander in Chief is waging a war on Christ in the military," Fischer said. "Now you can disguise it, you can say 'well, he's going after Christianity or he's going after Christians,' but why is he going after them?  Well, because of the first syllable in those words. What's the first syllable in Christianity? It is Christ. What's the first syllable in Christian? It is Christ. What's the first syllable in Christmas? It is Christ.” (Right Wing Watch)

Screen Shot Via Amazon 5. Former Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin: “Christmas Is Under Attack” “Palin quickly acknowledged that she has a new book coming out next week on exactly that topic. It also, she said, includes a moose chili recipe. "Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas” will be released on Tuesday with an official launch in the town of Bethlehem in Pennsylvania. “I say in a very jolly Christmasy way: ‘Enough is enough,’” she said. “Enough is enough of this politically correct police out there that is acting to erode our freedom to celebrate and exercise our faith.” (Des Moines Register)
