Spot the historical inaccuracy, win a job

The Current, San Antonio’s only alternative news weekly, is looking for two full-time staff writers to cover one of the most dynamic cities in the U.S. Reporters will have the option to focus on a nationally noticed governor’s race, a hotly contested mayoral race (plus the rising national career of Mayor Julian Castro, recently appointed Secretary of Housing and Urban Development by President Obama), an exciting state legislature session, the Eagle Ford Shale and much more.

These positions are oriented toward local news, with the opportunity to develop a specialty. Previous writers in this position have gone on to excel at reporting on criminal justice, the environment, and politics on the local and state levels. The staff writer will be responsible for filing weekly news stories and blogs, as well as developing longer investigative features and profiles.

Strong candidates will have at least two years of reporting experience, or one year and a graduate-level degree in journalism. However, less experienced candidates with strong copy editing and project management skills will be considered. Spanish language and multimedia skills are a plus, as is previous reporting experience in Texas. Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience, and we offer an attractive benefits package.

The Current is an award-winning Euclid Media Group property. We are the alternative voice in San Antonio, a city rapidly gaining national and international recognition. Our news department has won multiple Alt Weekly awards from the Association of Alternative Newsmedia, First Amendment awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and Lone Star awards from the Houston Press Club. We look forward to continuing that tradition with energetic, inquisitive reporters who know when to call bullshit on local politicians, organizations and businesses.

Submit a resume and three published clips to Callie Enlow, cenlow (at) sacurrent.com.

Positions are available starting June 13.
