Family, friends and supporters of a man shot and killed by police last year are holding a vigil Saturday to honor his memory.

Marquise Jones was shot and killed by off-duty San Antonio police officer Robert Encina on February 28 last year at the drive-thru at Chacho's on the Northeast Side.

Those attending the vigil that will be at Chacho's are encouraged to wear black, red or memorial T-shirts. Memorial supporters are calling a "1-year angelversary vigil," which will run from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The vigil is not a protest or rally, but rather a time for remembering Jones, according to the organizers.

Jones' family has also sued San Antonio and Encina, alleging that Jones' civil rights were violated. Encina shot Jones, who was a passenger in a vehicle that had a minor accident at the drive thru. Jones' family alleges the man was shot in the back, and Encina and San Antonio allege he had a gun.
