Count this as his first "oops" moment of the campaign. The San Antonio Express-News is reporting that Governor Rick Perry did not mean to use the word "accident" to describe the racially motivated massacre that resulted in nine deaths on Wednesday evening. Instead, he meant to say "incident," a word that still undermines the severity of the murders.

The original post continues below:

Our former governor, people.

By now you have most likely heard about the racially motivated massacre in a Charleston, South Carolina, church. Nine African Americans attending Bible study were killed by a white gunman at Emmanuel AME. The senseless shooting is clearly a hate crime, and has been described by many as an act of terrorism.

But over at Fox News, America's go-to news outlet for people who are kidding themselves, anchors and pundits are bending over backwards to convince viewers that this was an attack on religious freedom, instead of a racially motivated crime against black people that it obviously was.

We'll let Larry Willmore, host of The Nightly Show explain.

This was a hate crime. There should be no question about it. But the NRA has gone on record as saying that the murders should be blamed on Emmanuel AME's pastor, South Carolina state Sen. Clementa Pinckney, who was killed in the shooting and previously voted for sensible gun control policies.

Meanwhile, former Governor and current Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry used he senseless tragedy as an opportunity to campaign while at the same time minimizing Wednesday's shooting, calling it an "accident" caused by prescription drugs.

“It seems to me, again without having all the details about this, that these individuals have been medicated and there may be a real issue in this country from the standpoint of these drugs and how they’re used."

If prescription drug abuse is to blame, then how come Rush Limbaugh has never shot up any churches?
