Who could do such a thing?

That's what Animal Care Services is trying to figure out, calling pit bull Rosie's case one of the most disturbing its ever seen in San Antonio.

Rosie was doused with hydrochloric acid, a caustic liquid sometimes used to dissolve rust off of steel in industrial settings. The five-year-old dog sustained horrible chemical burns on 100 percent of her face and head. Rosie's entire right ear was dissolved and her left ear was partially consumed. She may have gone weeks without medical care and faces the possibility of permanent blindness.

However, ACS wants to save her eyesight and is working with a local veterinary eye specialist who might be able to restore Rosie's eyesight through surgery.

ACS is seeking monetary donations, which it said are desperately needed, to offset the costs of Rosie's surgery and for caring for other animals who were victim to cruelty.

Tax exempt donations can be made care of: San Antonio Animal Care Services, 4710 State Hwy 151, San Antonio, Tx 78227.

For more info, call ACS at (210) 207-4738 and visit its website

For now, Rosie will be placed in protective foster care while she recovers and gains enough strength to be evaluated for adoption.
