During the Dallas Cowboys' excruciating 26-20 loss to the New Orleans Saints Sunday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent out a tweet comparing the North Texas football team's defense to the Lone Star State's "porous border."

The tweet comes less than a month after Abbott traveled to Mexico to meet Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, where the two leaders discussed improving border security, creating energy sector jobs and Peña Nieto's request that Texas adopt policies that allow the integration of the Mexican immigrant community into the Lone Star State, The Dallas Morning News reported on September 8

Less than a month later, Abbott is comparing the Texas border to the Dallas Cowboys defense.

Not only that, as the San Antonio Express-News points out in a September 26 column by O. Ricardo Pimentel, all evidence shows that undocumented immigration, particularly from Mexico, is at an all-time low.

Lastly, for undocumented immigrants who do take the dangerous journey on La Bestia — a train wrought with danger that immigrants from Central America take to cartel-controlled territory in Northern Mexico — and are able to cross the Rio Grande face life-threatening challenges in the South Texas brush.

Comparing this humanitarian crisis to the Dallas Cowboys — members of the National Football League, a revenue-generating "nonprofit" — shows a lack of empathy toward human suffering. Because unlike football, people who make this dangerous journey are not playing a "game."

But, hey, maybe Abbott just thinks the border has too many international bridges that generate millions of dollars in trade each month.
