Confused about Texas' new open and campus carry laws?

That's a question the Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs takes up today during a public hearing that will "monitor the implementation of open and campus carry legislation and determine if the current laws regulating the places that handguns can be carried are easily understood of if clarification is needed to ensure the average citizen understands when, where, and under what circumstances it is lawful to carry a weapon, versus when it is a criminal offense for which there may be a defense."

There will only be invited testimony.

“Any law can lead to some confusion and misinterpretation. What is significant about the new gun laws is that the bills did not provide for public education or stakeholder input," Texas Gun Sense executive director Andrea Brauer says in a press release. "This puts the burden of informing the public and businesses on individual volunteers. This has led to a rampant lack of understanding and the circulation of a lot of misinformation as well.”

The hearing begins at 9 a.m.
