A 19-year-old construction worker was crushed to death by a backhoe operator Monday morning — just a week after the same operator injured her leg with a backhoe.

Destiny Rodriguez, an employee at Step It Up Construction, died around 10:30 a.m. at a Potranco Rd. construction site after a backhoe bucket (the giant claw-like scoop attached to the front of a backhoe) was dropped directly on top of her. The backhoe operator, who was also the site's foreman, told police officers that he hadn't seen Rodriguez.

According to her family members, this is the same man that sent Rodriguez home with a significant bruise on her leg after he hit her with a backhoe last week. Rodriguez' sister, Rosa, told the Express-News that her sister had complained about Step It Up's poor safety procedures in the past.

The foreman has been sent to the hospital, and Step It Up management say they're still at the scene, "handling the situation."
