Nearly 18 years after a San Antonio woman disappeared, the San Antonio Police Department have arrested her husband, 53-year-old Roy Hernandez, for her murder.

Prior to Dedra Salinas' disappearance in December 1999, she and Hernandez had gone to visit her mother, Margarita Salinas, and Dedra had told her mother she'd return a few hours later. But she never did, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

In February 2006, Salinas' skeletal remains were found buried underneath a concrete slab in the backyard of her and Hernandez's home on the 200 block of Cantrell. Police had been tipped off about the makeshift grave, and they obtained a search warrant to dig up Salinas’ remains.

Police were unable to determine what injuries Salinas sustained and the cause of her death, but they ruled it as a homicide “due to the suspicious nature in which her body was concealed and disposed of,” according to a press release. Over the years, Hernandez gave SAPD several inconsistent statements about Salinas’ whereabouts.

Hernandez was indicted for murder by a Grand Jury on Nov. 21, after the case was presented to the District Attorney’s office.
