A recent WalletHub study shows how each of the United States performs for driving/driver conditions. Surprisingly, Texas earned the overall top spot.

The survey considered factors like cost of car ownership and maintenance, traffic (really?!), infrastructure, safety and accessibility to cars and getting maintenance on them. There were also smaller considerations within those categories, like gas prices, weather conditions, traffic fatality rate and car dealerships per capita.

Despite the high ranking, the Lone Star State's standings varied across the categories. While Texas ranked third for lowest average gas prices and fifth for fewest days with ice, snow or rain, it also earned the 21st spot for traffic and infrastructure (congestion, commute times, road conditions) and 23rd for safety (traffic fatalities, car theft).

Still, Texas managed to come in first with a total score of 63.68.

Seriously though, how did Texas come in first? WalletHub conducted its own research and collected data from a number of governmental agencies, including the likes of the U.S. Census Bureau and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Whoever came up with the data, it seems like they've never been caught on I-35 during rush hour or driven in San Antonio when it's raining, or really at all. If Texas came in first, we'd hate to drive in one of the states on the negative side of the survey.
