While Texans joke about being able to handle the extreme heat, city of San Antonio Animal Care Services shared graphic photos to remind pet owners that their furry family members need to be considered during the summer.

Animal Care Services uploaded photos to its Facebook page of a dog named Molly, a shepherd mix. The pup spent several days in the sun without protection, according to the post, leading to severe thermal burns.

The Animal Defense League of Texas has since taken in Molly. The animal organization is treating Molly and will find a forever-home for her once she's healed.

In the Facebook post, Animal Care Services reminded pet owners that "If it's hot for you, it's hot for them." Owners should provide pets with shelter and shade from the sun.
