San Antonio's Occupy ICE Camp Given Orders By Police To Vacate

San Antonio's Occupy ICE encampment, which has been settled outside the city's ICE facility since July 17, received orders Tuesday morning from police to vacate the premises by 1:30 p.m.

The group is part a larger national sweep of Occupy ICE protestors calling for the dissolution of the immigration enforcement group.

In a statement made on the camp's official Twitter page, they announced that the police "previously told us we are authorized to be here, and are now backtracking saying it's ICE's property."

Organizers and activists on Twitter are calling for any supporters to join them at the site in holding their ground.

On Friday, "Mapache," an 18-year-old from the camp, was picked up by ICE officials during a vigil hosted by Occupy ICE San Antonio. He is a client of RAICES, as his DACA renewal is pending, and reportedly detained at the Webb Detention Center in Laredo. Many of his colleagues, along with RAICES, believe he was targeted for speaking out against the immigration system.

Monday, another friend of the San Antonio camp, Andres, was denied defense against his deportation and mistreatment.
