A man was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly setting a fire outside of Congressman Lloyd Doggett's San Antonio office, police said.

The suspect, 33-year-old Richard Casares, lit a fence adjacent to the Congressman's office on West Travis at around 4:15 a.m. The fire was extinguished promptly and the building suffered minimal damage.

"My great thanks to our police and firefighters, who responded quickly and professionally to contain the damage and assure no loss of life, and to my District Director MaryEllen Veliz, who was promptly on the scene," Doggett said in a statement on his Twitter page.

According to police, Casares admitted to starting the fire that spread to Doggett's office. Police do not suspect Casares was targeting the congressman or his office at this time.

Representative Lloyd Doggett is a Democrat who serves Texas' 35th district, which stretches along I-35 from southeastern Travis County to San Antonio's East Side, one of Texas' most gerrymandered districts. He has served in this position for six years.
