If you're going to retire in the Lone Star State, the best place to do it is in San Marcos, according to Forbes.
The financial magazine concluded that San Marcos, which has the reputation of being a college town, is actually the best place for retirees to settle down
. The cost of living is 13 percent lower than the national average, a low crime rate and the doctors per capita meets the national average.
Forbes considered data of more than 650 cities throughout the country, looking at affordability and doctor availability among other issues. San Marcos is made even more attractive with a population of 61,000 and median home price of $208,000.
San Antonio came in as the runner-up
for the study, with a population of nearly 1.5 million and median home price of $168,000. Though the Alamo City has an above average crime rate, the cost of living is 7 percent below national average.
