You've got to wonder whether Ted Cruz's mom gave him a shoe to suck on instead of a pacifier, because the Texas senator sure does spend a lot of time with his foot in his mouth.

Case in point: During a weekend appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press," Cruz said he just couldn't seem to find anyone outside of Washington who gives a shit about special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

"There is an incredible divide between Washington and the rest of the country when it comes to Bob Mueller and the Russia investigation," the GOP senator said. "The mainstream media, Washington, is obsessed with it. And when you get outside the Beltway, I don't find anybody concerned with this at all."

According to Cruz, the voters he talks to are more concerned with the economy and immigration.

Granted, some of us are more concerned with our jobs and financial situations — especially if we're reliant on a paycheck from one of the federal agencies affected by the shutdown. But recent polls suggest people outside the nation's capital are anything but ambivalent about the Mueller probe.

Most Americans (67 percent, for you number crunchers) say Mueller should be allowed to wrap up his investigation, and that the full findings should be made public, according to a recent PBS, NPR and Marist poll.

Not to mention, Cruz's comments come in the wake of the bombshell that law-enforcement officials investigated Trump on suspicion that he was Russia's "useful idiot," working to subvert American interests.
