San Antonio's not done tinkering with the rules for e-scooters and e-bikes.

And if you like riding 'em in the wee hours of the morning or parking 'em where they shouldn't aughta be parked, you probably won't be a fan of the suggested tweaks.

In October, city council approved a pilot program to rein in the until-then unregulated services offered by Bird, Lime and others. Now the city's Transportation Committee has proposed additional restrictions. Among them:
  • The city should put a moratorium on new scooter and bike permits until the pilot program is done.
  • The vehicles' hours of operation should be limited from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Scooters and bikes downtown should be picked up by vendors and kept off streets overnight.
  • City staff should encourage the use of designated parking areas and impound scooters or bikes parked in prohibited spaces.
Council will debate and vote on the amendments Feb. 14. So if midnight scooter rides are your jam, you may want to get a few in before the Man takes away your ride.
