Former SA mayor Julián Castro has earned a seat at the big folks' table.

The Democratic presidential hopeful announced Friday that he'd secured 65,000 unique individual campaign contributions, passing the threshold needed to grab a spot in the first round of Democratic National Committee debates. Another way to win a seat is to hit 1% support in at least three national polls.

Castro had already met the latter requirement — he's now polling in the low single digits — but his campaign had warned in recent fundraising emails that he could miss the cutoff without sufficient contributions.

According to Castro's campaign, it's received donations from all 50 states, including at least 200 unique donors from more than 44 different states and territories.

“When I started this campaign on January 12, I knew our team would have to work harder with fewer resources,” Castro said in a press release. “Reaching this threshold of genuine grassroots support is encouraging and shows without a doubt that this campaign continues to become stronger and stronger. I’m grateful for the support of so many people from around the country and am looking forward to the debates in June and July.”
