Elizabeth Flynn, of nearby Helotes, was awarded a $180,000 Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Scholarship on June 24, during a special presentation at the Alamo.

The 2021 graduate of Sandra Day O’Connor High School will be attending the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this fall, majoring in nuclear engineering. Upon graduation, Flynn will then enter the Navy in a leadership position as a commissioned officer.

The Navy offers several scholarship programs to help prospective sailors pay for school before starting a career in the Navy. Officers in the Navy have responsibilities that include anything from low-level management to the highest levels of command.
