You Can Name Your Own Pet Adoption Fee at Whiskers in Wonderland

Christmas comes early this year for anyone looking for a pet. The City of San Antonio Animal Care Services is hosting Whiskers in Wonderland, a city-wide adopt-a-thon at four of the city's largest animal shelters. This Friday through Sunday, just name your own price to adopt an animal and take home the greatest give you will ever receive.

Yes, you read that correctly. You can name your own adoption fee! Just be sure it's reasonable—no cheeky $1 offers. You are taking home an animal that will love you unconditionally, after all. All animals that are up for adoption have been  sterilized, vaccinated, de-wormed, licensed and microchipped. Donations are also welcome to help the shelters save more animals in the upcoming new year.

With this amazing offer it is easy to get excited about all the puppy possibilities, but take a moment before you adopt to think about the responsibility of becoming a pet owner. Commit to your decision to adopt or consider the commitment of the prospective parents if you are giving pets as gifts this holiday season. Living and breathing presents can easily be a holiday wish come true, but be mindful not to give to those who never had such a holiday dream. If you do adopt this weekend you will help make a homeless pet’s holiday merry and bright.

Whiskers in Wonderland runs from Friday, December 12 through Sunday, December 14 at these participating shelters: Animal Care Services (4710 State Highway 151, off Old Highway 90), San Antonio Humane Society (4804 Fredericksburg), the Animal Defense League (11300 Nacogdoches) and San Antonio Pets Alive! (210 Tuleta in Brackenridge Park). The shelters have special adoption hours throughout the event, 11 a.m. to 7p.m. all weekend.
