  • The heat is here.

Remember how wonderful all those spring rains were? Sure, flash flooding can be a hassle in San Antonio, and, of course, the mosquitos were relentless.

But here we are, summer. And it's exactly what you'd expect: blazing hot.

The National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio has issued a heat advisory through 7 p.m. today for Bexar County — and 23 other Texas counties — as temperatures range from 98 to 105 degrees with possible heat indices soaring up to 112 degrees.

Paul Yura, a meteorologist with the weather service, says the heat is dangerous and people should watch out for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

"People need to stay hydrated and that doesn't mean drinking alcohol," Yura said. "Drink straight water and sports drinks and stuff. Drink water even if you're not thirsty."

The triple-digit heat is expected to stick around through the end of the weekend.

"We're in the middle of summer now," he said. "It's very rare this time of year to get any kind of significant cold front or anything."

The reason it's so hot is a familiar one: the rain has run its course, for now. And Yura said San Antonio is unlikely to get precipitation any time soon.

Additionally that nice breeze over the holiday weekend that offered some relief from the stifling heat isn't sticking around. "We are expecting the wind to not be as strong," Yura said. "So it may feel warmer."

Yura said the most intense temperatures today will occur between noon and 7 p.m.
