The City of San Antonio is warning of heavy traffic congestion Friday as the city welcomes thousands of visitors for several highly anticipated events.
Billy Joel and Sting are scheduled to play the Alamodome. Meanwhile, the city is also hosting its Day of the Dead River Parade. Both events kick off at 7 p.m., meaning drivers will also have to contend with after-work rush hour traffic.
City officials warn that there will be heavy congestion especially near the Alamodome and I-37/281. Travelers are encouraged to plan ahead and ride-share, bike, walk or use the VIA bus system if possible. Learn more on the city’s Know Before You Go Downtown page.
In addition, San Antonio’s Center City Development and Operations department mentions that traffic issues are likely to continue throughout the weekend due to various planned events.
Events happening this weekend include La Villita’s Day of the Dead Festival, which runs Friday through Sunday. Then, there’s Muertos Fest at Hemisfair and Market Square’s Cultural Celebration of Día de los Muertos, which are both on Saturday and Sunday.
Space Con is also going on Friday through Sunday at Freeman Coliseum, which will welcome Josh Brolin, Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen and Rosario Dawson. To top it all off, the River North Block Party will also take place Saturday, October 26 from 2 to 6 p.m.
Tickets are still available to the Billy Joel and Sting concert, starting at $39.50. Tickets to SpaceCon are also still available.
