Apparently, the U.S. is a divided nation in more ways than one.

The Will Ferrell comedy Elf is the most popular Christmas movie in Texas along with 23 other states, according to a new study. Meanwhile, Home Alone is the favorite yuletide flick in the remaining 26 states.

That’s right. If the report’s numbers are to believed Americans have divided allegiances to just two Christmas movies. Other classics from It’s a Wonderful Life to A Christmas Story didn’t take the top slot in any state.

To get their results, researchers for the gaming platform GameTop counted up the number of online searches through 2024 for an array of holiday movie faves and ranked them by state.

So, what other Christmas movies do Texans like besides Elf? Turns out Home Alone took the No. 2 slot here with Gremlins, Edward Scissorhands and Die Hard rounding out the top five in respective order.

While the popularity of Elf in the Lone Star State should come as little surprise, the real news here may be the growing consensus that Die Hard is, in fact, a holiday flick.

Yippee ki-yay!
