An elegant Olmos Park home built for businessman A.B. Alvey in 1928 has hit the market for just shy of $1.5 million.
The property was designed by San Antonio architect Glenn Wilson for businessman A.B. Alvey, who’s listed in Texas historical records as a one-time executive of the Sabine Co., a sizable East Texas lumber mill.
While Wilson wasn’t one of the primary architects for the downtown area’s exclusive Olmos Park enclave, he did put a distinctive stamp on the Alvey home. The 3,300-square-foot dwelling’s many architectural make it resemble a “jewel box,” listing agent Katie Tottenham said.
A trio of distinctive “eyebrow” dormer windows run along the top of the four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath property, and cove ceilings extend through its master suite and part of its living area. A spiral staircase curls up the center of the residence, which includes both a screened porch and a screened balcony.
While owners have conducted periodic renovations over the years, those upgrades have painted a timeless touch that fits with its century-old vintage, according to Tottenham.
“You don’t see places this well maintained and this well blended anymore — or ever, really,” she added.
This home is listed by Katie Tottenham with Kuper Sotheby’s International Realty.
