Sure, Independence Day tends to be more of a fire-up-the-grill kind of holiday, but some of us would rather avoid playing with open flame, getting smeared with charcoal dust and incinerating an otherwise good cut of meat.

If you prefer to let the pros do the cooking this July Fourth, these San Antonio culinary spots are serving up a variety of fun and delicious options.

Ranger Creek Brewery

Ranger Creek Brewery will offer a class teaching home bartenders how to craft a pair of specialty cocktails inspired by the Independence Day holiday. Each $40 ticket includes a welcome drink, the two cocktails made in class, light snacks and recipe cards to take home. 4834 Whirlwind Drive, (210) 339-2282, drinkrangercreek.com.

Whiskey Cake

The La Cantera eatery has an apt homage to Independence Day: a Founding Father’s whiskey flight for $18. Enjoy pours of Elijah Craig, Basil Hayden and more alongside new brunch menu items such as peach cobbler French toast and a short stack of pancakes. The special runs 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on July Fourth. 15900 La Cantera Pkwy, #21200, (210) 236-8095, whiskeycake.com.

Hard Rock Cafe San Antonio

Need a break from burgers and brews? Hard Rock Cafe is throwing a Stars and Stripes Foam Street glow party before and after the downtown drone show at the Alamo. After 10 p.m., the party will turn into an adults-only gathering. The San Antonio  location also is participating in the Hard Rock chain’s nationwide burger tour contest by offering its own signature Texas Whiskey Smoker with smoked rye whiskey barbecue sauce, which will be available on the menu until Aug. 4. 111 W. Crockett St., (210) 224-7625, cafe.hardrock.com.

La Panaderia

Music, pan dulce and patriotism are on the menu at La Panaderia’s Midtown and La Cantera locations on Saturday, July 5. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., guests will be able to enjoy live DJ sets and festive treats such as red, white and blue pan dulce options and apple tarts. Multiple locations, lapanaderia.com.

Mare e Monte

Italian eatery Mare e Monte will provide a half-off wine and beer special this Independence Day, giving diners something else to raise a glass over. 9390 Huebner Road, (210) 267-1233, mareemonte.com.

Haywire

Haywire will get Independence Day started with a special Hill Country-inspired brunch. Available from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., the menu features highlights such as barbacoa chilaquiles, cinnamon-orange pancakes, wagyu pastrami hash and more. Wash it all down with a mimosa or two, in the name of freedom. 15900 La Cantera Pkwy, #11200, (210) 448-8999, haywirerestaurant.com.

Jazz, TX

The Pearl’s basement jazz bar and restaurant will offer a swinging night of performances paying homage to jazz legend Louis Armstrong. The bar and kitchen will be open for drinks and dinner service. Those who can’t make the 7 p.m. show can hit the performance at 9:30 p.m. 312 Pearl Parkway, Bldg. 6, #600, (210) 332-9386, jazztx.com.
