Artpace, a nonprofit artist residency program in San Antonio, is celebrating its 30th anniversary by rolling out numerous updates and plans.

One such update is a roof renovation, “which will transform Artpace’s rooftop into a vibrant outdoor area for programming, complete with a shade structure and solar panels,” the nonprofit shared in an emailed statement. Though a completion date is yet to be determined, the downtown space located at 445 N. Main Street plans to throw a “big rooftop celebration open to the public” once it is ready to make its debut.

Artpace also plans to host a gala in October. However, more details on the black tie event have yet to be revealed, as it’s still in its early planning stages.

“While some of our plans are still in development, this anniversary year is a time to honor Artpace’s legacy and the incredible impact it has made on San Antonio’s cultural landscape,” said Artpace manager of communications Elena Peña. “Thanks to the support of our community, we continue to offer free, year-round programming and admission, which remains at the heart of our mission and we want to emphasize that this year.”

The nonprofit shared a message from its director Riley Robinson on Instagram on Wednesday’s anniversary date, celebrating its accomplishments throughout its 30 years.

“To this day we have hosted nine MacArthur Fellows, 33 NEA Fellows, 21 recipients of $50,000 US Artist Fellowships, and 33 Guggenheim Fellows, and the list extends to hundreds of additional award categories,” the post touts.
Artwork created at Artpace is now on display in museums including the Menil Collection in Houston and the Blanton Museum of Art in Austin, among many other “major collections around the world,” the post adds.

Among its many exhibits and events, the space is offering a workshop on screen printing Saturday, Jan. 18.
