High-end San Antonio restaurant Rebelle has closed to make way for a “new concept,” according to Crescent Hotels & Resorts, the Virginia-based company that assumed management of the St. Anthony Hotel in December.

The announcement follows a day after former Rebelle chef Stefen Bowers fired off an instagram post accusing the hotel’s owners and new management of leaving “what was a beautiful, hard working, articulate, caring staff and concept, gutted, slowly bleeding out in Peacock Alley, undignified and alone.”

Bowers, who was fired in December, had been with Rebelle from its 2015 launch, serving both as executive chef and a founder for nearly a decade.

Crescent Hotels & Resorts didn’t directly respond to the Current‘s request for comment on Bowers’ Instagram post. However, in a statement emailed in reply, the company said the St. Anthony’s restaurant will be temporarily shuttered while management works out a new concept.

“We are enthusiastic about the future and the new opportunities ahead,” Cari Hellman, Crescent’s senior director of food and beverage marketing, said in the statement. “At Crescent Hotels & Resorts, the well-being of our employees, guests, and community is our highest priority. We recognize that transitions bring adjustments, and we sincerely appreciate the patience and understanding of our staff and guests during this time.”

She added: “Our commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all remains unwavering, and we look forward to delivering a positive experience for everyone involved in the near future.”
Rebelle drew critical praise for its seafood-focused menu and innovative cocktail program. Beyond downtown tourists and travelers, the dining spot gained a solid local following that included Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

Since his departure from Rebelle, Bowers has focused on Pumpers: An Adult Burger Store, which held its grand opening earlier this month. Located at 1101 Broadway near the San Antonio Museum of Art, the restaurant specializes in gourmet burgers and hot dogs served in a cheeky atmosphere.
