Perhaps one of Texas’ most iconic treasures, the Alamo is a historical gift that keeps on giving.
But preserving the historic mission that defines San Antonio to many people outside of the Lone Star State isn’t easy or cheap.
San Antonio lawmaker Lyle Larson, however, believes specialty license plates could be the answer. Larson filed a bill proposing the license plates on January 21 in the Texas House of Representatives.
The specialty plates would have an image of the Alamo and the word “Remember” at the bottom of the plates, and proceeds from sales of the plates would go to the Texas Historical Commission and would only be able to be used for providing grants to the Alamo Mission Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas to fund Texas history education programs.
Larson told the San Antonio Express-News that he is working to amend the bill to include language for the renovations.
The plates would cost between $40 and $60 and would be join dozens of other specialty Texas license plates.
