Jokingly dubbed the “worst best kept secret” in San Antonio for its famous Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, Gino’s Deli has earned another major accolade: ranking ninth on review site Yelp’s national list of the Top 100 Sandwich Shops of 2025.
San Antonio sandwich shops PB&J with Tay and Bilia Eatery also earned spots on Yelp’s list, landing at No. 34 and No. 53, respectively.
Yelp based its ranking methodology on several factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews on its site. All businesses on the list also had a passing health score as of May 9, 2025, assuming the score was publicly available.
Each of the three San Antonio eateries on Yelp’s list brings a different approach to the local sandwich scene.
For example, Gino’s serves up affordable sandos in a Stop n Buy convenience store at 13210 Huebner Road. A passion project for owner Aleem Chaudry, Gino’s no-frills approach has earned the beloved deli multiple accolades over the years, including the ninth-ranked spot on Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S. list for 2024 and Best Sandwiches in the Current’s 2025 Best of San Antonio.
Over in Olmos Park, PB&J with Tay, 5335 McCullough Ave., stays focused on its childhood-nostalgia sandwich niche — grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches served on Texas toast with a side of Lays potato chips. The charming eatery has several spins on the sandwich classic available on its menu.
Rounding out the Alamo City’s presence on the list is Bilia Eatery, 1900 NW Military Highway in Castle Hills. The Pan-Latin restaurant’s menu includes several sandwiches, but its take on a traditional Cuban is the star. Featuring mojo-roasted pork, ham, melted Swiss cheese and house-made pickles, Bilia’s exceptional Cuban comes with a side of fries or plantain chips.
